Hair mesotherapy is a treatment in which a mixture of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients is injected into the scalp with very fine needles. Its aim is to support the nourishment of the hair follicles and improve hair quality. Mesotherapy can be used on its own or as a complementary treatment after a hair transplant.
How is hair mesotherapy performed?
After the scalp is cleaned, the solution is injected superficially with very fine needles at points close to each other. A session usually takes 20–30 minutes. The length of the course is planned individually: sessions are more frequent at first and then spaced out.
Who is it for?
- men and women whose hair is starting to thin;
- people with seasonal or stress-related hair shedding;
- people who want to support their existing hair after a hair transplant.
Mesotherapy does not grow new hair in completely bald areas; when follicles have been lost, a hair transplant is discussed.
Who should not have it?
- during pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- when there is an active infection or inflammation of the scalp;
- when there is an allergy to any ingredient of the solution;
- with some blood disorders or when taking blood thinners; this is assessed separately with the doctor.
What to consider after mesotherapy
- It is recommended not to wash your hair on the day of the session.
- Avoid swimming pools, saunas and strenuous exercise for the first days.
- Do not apply chemical hair products or colour for a few days.
- Mild redness and tenderness at the injection points may occur and usually settle quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is one session enough?
Usually not. Mesotherapy is given as a course and several sessions are needed. The number of sessions depends on the condition of your hair.
When will I notice a result?
Many patients notice a change in hair quality after a few sessions. Results vary from person to person and depend on the cause of the hair loss.
Can mesotherapy be done in summer?
Yes, mesotherapy can be done at any time of the year. Protecting the scalp from direct sun is recommended in the first days after a session.
Can mesotherapy be done after a hair transplant?
Yes. Some patients are advised to have mesotherapy after a transplant, once the scalp has healed. Your doctor will tell you when it is appropriate to start.
